The outstanding achievements of NewVIc students were celebrated by staff, family and sponsors at the Annual Awards evening held at the college last month.

Prizes were awarded to students who have excelled academically and students who have contributed to the life of the college. The awards were sponsored by key organisations including Brunel University, University of East London, The Newham Recorder and London City Airport who support NewVIc’s values and recognise the talent and achievements of the students.

Representatives from the sponsor organisations took to the stage to award students with prizes of cheques and vouchers.

Inspiring success stories about each award winner were shared on the evening, including Nicoletta Cozminca who was one of four students to receive the Principal’s Award for demonstrating the college’s ACE values (ambition, challenge and equality). Nicoletta was also one of seven NewVIc students invited to the sold out event ’Becoming’ – An Evening with Michelle Obama’ at the Royal Festival Hall last month, to discuss her new memoir.

Awards were also presented to students who had achieved the Sixth Form Baccalaureate (SF Bac), which recognises the hours students dedicate to their studies, volunteering and extra-curricular activities. A huge number of students were awarded the SF Bac with commendation for demonstrating exceptional commitment in these areas.

Mandeep Gill, NewVIc Principal and CEO commented on the evening:
“Celebrating the amazing talent, success and wider achievements of NewVIc students is always a highlight of the year. We are all really proud of our students; they’ve excelled in their studies, served the local community in many different ways and have progressed to higher study, university and employment. We are very grateful to all our sponsors for supporting these awards so generously and we appreciate their continuing commitment to work in partnership with NewVIc, bringing many opportunities and benefits for our students.”

The evening was rounded off with an impressive performance from the college’s flagship dance group NewVIc Dance Company who performed a street dance piece they choreographed.

NewVIc is very grateful to the following organisations who sponsored the awards this year: Archant, Brunel University, Caterlink Ltd, Clarks Legal LLP, CPB Projects, CPMS Projects, Enterprise Support Services, London City Airport, Newham Recorder, Shepheard Epstein Hunter, The Office Providers, University of East London and Woodland Corporate Interiors.
