Waltham Forest College has launched a mobile website that allows easy access for smartphones users. It is compatible with browsers found on handheld iPhone, android and Blackberry devices.
The mobile site with its simplified graphics loads effortlessly and features a quick course search and application function. Users enter the College's normal URL and once they have selected their course they are able to apply online directly so avoiding a double transaction of having to get the information via the phone and then submitting an application via a computer.
Angela Bucknor, Head of Marketing said: 'With the growth in the number of mobile users visiting our website we felt it important to enable them to access course information and apply online with ease. It has been an immediate success; within a couple of hours of going live we received started receiving online applications from smartphones.'
Mana Ahmed, 17, applied for her Level 1 hairdressing course using her smartphone. 'I could not be bothered with going to turn on my computer and wait for it to boot up. The mobile form was well laid out and really easy to use,' she said.
Abdiqani Isse who has applied BTEC National Diploma in IT Level 3 said: 'I decided to submit my application in the middle of the night and I was able to take my phone from under my pillow and complete my application. This was much simpler and faster than having to switch on my laptop.'
The College plans to continue to develop the site over the next few months by providing additional features that will be appreciated by smartphone users.
