Becky Shailer, aged 25, is shortlisted for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's 2012 Outstanding Student Award in recognition for her work as HR Information Analyst at Kent County Council.
Becky is one of five finalists and studied for the Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management at Bromley College, which she completed in July.
It was Becky's hard work volunteering as the Co-Chair of Kent County Council's Younger Persons' Staff Group, Aspire, that brought her to the attention of the judging panel.
Using the skills and knowledge gained from her course, Becky managed a consultation and re-launch of the staff group to meet the needs of young colleagues, and is currently responsible for over 20 projects which she manages in addition to her day to day role.
Becky said: 'I am really excited to have been shortlisted for this award; it's really fantastic to be recognised as I am incredibly proud of my achievements with Kent County Council's staff group. I have always been passionate about HR, but I'm now even more excited about my HR career. I am determined to continue with my studies and complete the next level of the CIPD qualification.
'I've been studying at Bromley College since September 2011 and I've really enjoyed attending my classes. The tutors are supportive and knowledgeable and the College provides some great resources. I am interested in progressing my career to become an HR Adviser and possibly working in organisational development.'
CIPD tutor, Penny Keys, congratulates Becky on her success: 'We're delighted that such an outstanding student has been recognised for her hard work. Becky is a perfect example of how our professional students use what they have learnt in the classroom and apply it to their workplace. We wish her every success for the awards ceremony.'
The CIPD People Management Awards are delivered in partnership with People Management Magazine and recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in HR.
The winners will be revealed at a black-tie showcase Awards event in central London on the evening of 17 October 2012. Good luck Becky!
