Insurance
Part 1
Insurance whilst you are a
student is vital - you will be at risk of several things whilst you're
at college, whether they be health issues, theft issues or travel issues.
Many are the stories of Freshers who turned up at their first week in
college with a trunk full of possessions, only to find that, after they
returned from their first ice-breakers ball, that not only had all their
possessions gone, but their car had been nicked and their door broken
down.
This is not the best way to
start your college career, so here's a brief guide to the different types
of insurance you could need to cover for every eventuality.
Motor Insurance
Obviously you only need this cover if you have a car, or other motor vehicle.
(Motorbike insurance is often in a different category). Check whether
you want 3rd party, fire and theft, or fully comprehensive, and make sure
you know what the excesses are going to be if you make a claim. Also verify
who, if any, your named drivers are.
Pet Insurance
Surprisingly this is the fastest growing type of insurance around at the
moment, and basically means covering your pet's health - so if you have
a dog or fish or cat, the insurance company will pay the vet's bills.
Handy if you've got an old dog, or a kitten that needs to be spayed, although
most colleges don't accept pets in their halls of residence. Especially
handy for people with Guide Dogs.
