After disappointing GCSE results, I looked for a job. I couldn't find anything I enjoyed doing until I got a job working in a record shop. I really enjoyed it, dealing with customers, getting to know the stock and getting a discount.

It was a medium-sized shop and my employer asked if any of the staff would consider an Apprenticeship in Customer Services. I decided to and did an Apprenticeship in Customer Services at City of Westminster College. The course was really good, as it was mostly based on the work I did at the shop, as well as going to classes at the college. It allowed me to continue working and gain a qualification - an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Services.

As a result of my training, the company moved me to another shop and I have become Assistant Junior Manager, responsible for my own section of the shop, liaising with the other managers, training new staff and dealing with customers to a higher level, including handling complaints.

I would like to continue in management, moving up to manager, and would like to run my own shop. The company are expanding and opening new shops, so they're looking for staff who can handle the responsibility all the time.

If you enjoy working, don't enjoy schoolwork, but would still like to get on and get a qualification, definitely consider doing an Apprenticeship.
