Leyton Sixth Form College is celebrating an excellent set of examination results once again this year with an overall pass rate of 98% at A Level and 100% on vocational and technical courses. 70% of students achieved top A*, A and B grades or the vocational equivalent and we have seen a further increase of 7% in those gaining the very highest A* grades. These achievements are particularly impressive given the significant changes to the A Level system with more subjects moving over to the reformed linear structure this year.
Principal Gill Burbridge said: ‘We are absolutely delighted with our results and, on behalf of the staff and Governors I would like to congratulate all of our students on what they have achieved. Continuing to maintain a strong A Level pass rate and seeing so many students accessing the top grades is particularly positive given the increase in challenge provided by linear A Levels. We are an inclusive College committed to helping students of all educational backgrounds reach their potential and we celebrate each and every individual performance. We have a high number of students progressing to study at top universities, art and drama schools and conservatoires as well as securing competitive apprenticeships and employment. Amongst these wonderful results we are very proud of Bepul Shahab who has achieved 4 A* grades in Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Spanish and has secured a place at Cambridge University.
Gill continued: ‘These results demonstrate our students’ achievements have improved even more since our ‘Good’ Ofsted in 2016. I would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of our expert staff and the excellent teaching, learning and support that they have provided. We have high expectations and ambition for those that study here and we are committed to offering a rewarding and stimulating sixth form education in a caring and supportive learning community.’
Such is the College’s long-term record of achievement that applications for the 2017/18 academic year are at a record high and places are limited as a result.
