Lewisham Southwark College students were enjoying Fresher’s activities this week with a range of clubs, societies and teams vying for attention. This year’s students also got the chance to saddle up on the smoothie bike, plus a range of other activities.
Amongst the fun, there is a serious side to the Fresher’s Days, which is about students getting to know each other, mixing with those from other courses who they might not otherwise meet. Together with being able to sign up for volunteering opportunities that can enhance their CVs, students could talk about setting up bank accounts, join the NUS (National Union of Students) and grab a free lunch too.
Organiser, Diahanna Hendrickson said: “There was such a buzz around the event, the students couldn’t believe it was all put on free of charge for them!
“The event is a great way of helping the students navigate around the campuses, getting a feel for student life and the extra activities they can get involved in. There are some very successful sport teams here who rely on picking up some new talent from this event.”
LSCollege students will have plenty more activities during this term to keep them busy and engaged in their learning, including the upcoming student union elections and attendance initiatives including pizza parties for the classes who top the league.
