South Thames College was thrilled to host the first ever Solar Skills Fair in with representatives from Solar Energy UK, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, IEMA, Solis, Next Energy, Photon Energy, Anesco Ltd and InRange.
Over 150 students and adult learners visited the exhibition to hear about careers and opportunities in the sector and we were delighted that Parliamentary Minister Amanda Solloway could join us to experience the event and hear about our exciting plans for future courses. Mark Wakeford, Chair of the Solar Taskforce’s Skills Group and of SEUK’s Skills Steering Group said: “It has been great to work with South Thames College on our first solar skills event to drive interest in and be part of our solar future.”
A rich lunchtime discussion with employers shed light on the skills gap and learning requirements for working in the solar industry. South Thames College Principal John O’Shea enthused: “It’s so important to hear directly from industry professionals about their needs so that we can shape our curriculum and course offer to meet the demands of the future workforce and support the renewable agenda.”
Thank you to all exhibitors for sharing your valuable time with us to support our students and guests.
